## Events of August 6, 2026

🇫🇷 France — an imported Franco-Argentine case is detected on French soil, unrelated to the MV Hondius. The Ministry of Health announces that a Franco-Argentine national on a tourist trip, who stayed in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Normandy and Île-de-France during the second half of July, has tested positive. The National Reference Centre for hantaviruses (Institut Pasteur) confirms the Andes strain. The sample was taken in France; the result came back after he had left for Spain, where he is now isolated with his family in his holiday accommodation in Galicia — not in hospital, as his condition does not warrant admission to a high-level isolation unit. Isolation is planned for six weeks. High-risk contacts self-isolate for six weeks under regional health agency follow-up. On the same day, the French MV Hondius passenger leaves intensive care after nearly three months in the ICU of a Paris hospital. She has been transferred to a convalescent care facility, the Ministry of Health told AFP. The four other French nationals admitted in May never developed the disease.
